Add New Product Pages and Update Product Search

STEP ONE: Add New Product Numbers to Product Attributes

  • There are two types of product attributes: “Alternative Model Numbers” and “Model Numbers”
  • Navigate to PRODUCTS > ATTRIBUTES
  • Click on the grey gear icon next to the “Alternative Model Numbers”
  • In the “Name Field” enter a model number with spaces
  • In the “Slug” field, enter the model, separated by dashes. Add a “-2” at the end of the alternative model number
  • Click the blue “Add New Alternative Model Numbers” button
  • Repeat this process for alternative model numbers without spaces.
  • In the “Name Field” enter a model number without spaces
  • In the “Slug” field, enter the model with no spaces or dashes.
  • Click the blue “Add New Alternative Model Numbers” button
  • Navigate to PRODUCTS > ATTRIBUTES
  • Click on the grey gear icon next to the “Model Numbers”
  • In the “Name Field” enter a model number with dashes
  • In the “Slug” field, enter the model, separated by dashes.
  • Click the blue “Add New Model Numbers” button
  • MAKE NOTE OF THE NEW ATTRIBUTE ID IN THE FAR RIGHT COLUMN. YOU WILL NEED THE ID IN THE NEXT STEP

STEP TWO: Create a New Product

  • Check the appropriate Product Category
  • Navigate to PRODUCTS > ADD PRODUCT
  • Enter a product name
  • In the Product Data section, click the “Attributes” tab
  • From the “Custom product attribute” drop down box, select “Model Number”
  • In the “Values” box, enter all of the product numbers associated with this product. Use dashes in the product numbers.
  • From the “Custom product attribute” drop down box, select “Alternative Model Number”
  • In the “Values” box, enter all of the product numbers associated with this product. Use spaces (instead of dashes) in the product numbers. Also enter the product numbers without spaces.

STEP THREE: Add Products to Search Results

  • Navigate to SEARCH & FILTER > SEARCH & FILER
  • Click on “Search by Model Number”
  • Under the “Tags, Categories, & Taxonomies” tab, scroll to the text field for “Model Number”
  • You will see a comma-delimited list of model number IDs (these are assigned by WordPress)
  • Append the list with the model number IDs (see last bullet in previous step) you want to add to the “Search by Model Number” drop down box
  • Click the blue “Update” button
  • Click the grey “Rebuild Cache” button

STEP FOUR: Create a Sub-Menu

  • Navigate to APPEARANCE > MENUS
  • Click the “Create a New Menu” link
  • Give the name a meaningful title
  • Add pages and/or links you want to include in the new menu
  • Click the blue “Save Menu” button

STEP FIVE: Create a Product Page

  • Navigate to PAGES > ADD NEW
  • Click the TEMPLATES button and select “A NEW PRODUCT PAGE”
  • In the “Full Width Sub-Menu” element, select the appropriate sub-menu
  • Edit content
